To say this is a pub guide is misleading, though a guide it certainly is. Our aim is to promote and preserve "the pub" in the United Kingdom and to zealously advertise and advocate its indisputably important place in the social growth of the UK. We have no political axes to grind, nor do we claim to know the best methods of running a business. Our criteria are simple: pubs which deliver what they promise in the best of spirit and intentions may be offered the opportunity to join our listings. Though real ale is our preference, we will not necessarily exclude houses that choose not to sell it. Society by its nature consists of a wide variety of people, all of whom enjoy the pub experience and have different needs. Our reporters travel far and wide in search of pubs that qualify for our pages. Descriptions, though perhaps subjective, are always honest. No pub's name will appear which, in our belief, does not qualify on the basis of quality and spirit of service, quality of products on offer, and overall integrity in servicing its market and creating a desirable pub atmosphere. Visitors to the UK will not find a more reliable guide to suitable pubs in which one would enjoy spending some time. All are worth a visit for their own distinct reasons. Our descriptions contain much more than simple pub definitions. We find local history of great interest, and our reporters strive to discover such history including interesting anecdotes about the area and about the unique character of the landlords and staff. It should be borne in mind than for every pub that qualifies to be on our site, there will be ten that simply don't. That's because this is an honest guide to the sort of pubs you want to visit.
