Located near the top of Folkestone's cobblestoned Old High Street, the Earl Grey is a perfect spot to stop for a drink or a meal. Recently refurbished, this pub is clean, light, and airy and offers Shepherd Neame real ales as well as wines by the glass and quality home-cooked food. The pub features a roomy horseshoe-shaped bar with comfortable stools where customers can sit and join in on the conversation. If you prefer more privacy for a meal there are plenty of tables by the windows where you can sit and watch the tourists and the locals strolling between the pedestrian district and the harbour. In addition there is a small second bar in the back.
Although retaining the feel of a traditional English pub, the Earl Grey imparts a continental ambience as well. There are no pool tables, dart boards, or jukeboxes here, only quiet music and lively conversation -- and, of course, fine pints of Master Brew and Spitfire.
Proprietors Alan and Alison Rose run the Earl Grey with the help of their small son Donald and their dog Tyson. After a 16-year career as a policeman in southeast London, Alan decided to pursue his love of real ale and good conversation, and they opened the newly-renovated pub in August of 2000. Although Alan and Alison are both very easy-going and friendly, you can rest assured no troublemakers will be tolerated here. This is a civilized pub where customers can relax and take it easy.
Stop by and enjoy a fine pint, a tasty meal, and the unique Earl Grey conviviality.
