Situated on the Romney Marsh at the southwest end of Lydd, the Royal Oak is a spacious and welcoming pub featuring friendly conversation and fine real ales. The pub is run by Trevor and Mandie Brown along with the help of their dog Sasha and a family of cats.

This is a complete career change for the Browns. In November 2000 Trevor left the motor trade to pursue his love of real ale, and the Royal Oak was reopened to the delight of locals.

Originally two cottages which were joined together and eventually extended, the pub consists of two large rooms. The main room features a long bar as well as cosy tables and seating around the sides. The second room is furnished with a pool table, dartboard, and jukebox, and there is room for musicians to perform. Various trophies for darts, pool, and tug-of-war are proudly displayed around the pub along with a collection of regimental caps behind the bar. For summer days seating is available outside the pub.

Oh, one other thing: the Royal Oak is famous for its exceptionally clean toilets.

After a day spent exploring the fascinating Romney Marsh, be sure to visit the Royal Oak for a pleasant time and a good pint.
